As the provider of education services to international students in Australia, Melbourne Institute of Technology must comply with the Education Services for Overseas Students Act (ESOS Act) and the National Code of Practice for Registration Authorities and Providers of Education and Training to Overseas Students (The National Code). The ESOS Act sets out the minimum standards and procedures for the provision of courses to international students in Australia and provides tuition and financial assurance. They specify minimum standards for the:
- Promotion and marketing of courses and services
- Recruitment of overseas students
- Enrolment
- Provision of support services to students
- Complaints and appeals
Collectively, they aim to ensure nationally consistent standards for the delivery of educational services to international students in Australia; to safeguard Australia's international reputation as a provider of high quality education and training; and to protect the interests of international students. They further aim to support providers in monitoring student compliance with their visa conditions and reporting any student breaches to government agencies.
